THE ISHKA SACRED SITE
ABOUT US
The Full Story
The Ishka Sacred Site is supported by the South Texas Alliance of Indigenous People (STAIP) and is a 501(c)3.
STAIP's mission:
Create a space to honor the rich Native American history, past and present in the Coastal Bend, connect to Spirit and nature, increase public awareness while also supporting and embracing Indigenous heritage through education.
Our vision
● Create a better space for future gatherings.
● Provide a space for the community to learn about and embrace their heritage
● Provide a place for Native Americans and all people to conduct their ceremonies, both locally and afar.
● Give Park users from all walks of life an opportunity to learn about the ancient history of the land
● Revitalize the local Lipan Apache language through graphics and an app
● Provide a burial vault to repatriate remains dug up from the surrounding area
The creation of STAIP's 501(c)3 status was spearheaded by Larry Running Turtle Salazar under the umbrella of the Center for Progressive Studies and Culture, a non-profit that supports small, local grass roots non-profits.
